Behavioral Therapy argues that observable, maladaptive and self defeating behaviors may be modified and/or replaced by learning new more effective behaviors. This theory and therapy was created by B.F. Skinner (operant conditioning) and Joseph Wolpe (systematic desensitization). Behavioral Therapy has been shown to be helpful
in the treatment of anxiety disorders, mood disorders, substance-related
disorders, eating disorders, and attention deficit disorders. Behavioral
Therapy is usually combined with cognitive interventions to maximize
the clinical progress of the patient (Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy).
