Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is characterized by excessive activity or impulsive behavior that usually leads to negative consequences in the person’s life. Adults with ADHD have a difficult time participating in sedentary activities. They often look as “driven by a motor” and talk excessively. They may act in an impatient way, having a difficult time waiting for their turn, blurt out answers without thinking, interrupt others, etc. The disorder may not be visible when the person is highly interested in a specific activity (e.g. their favorite hobby or a highly stimulating work project). The treatment of choice for Attention Disorders is
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This treatment modality has been found
to be very effective and is a relatively short term intervention. |
